- 2. Sequence Window
-
- 2.2. Graphical Mode
-
- In the graphical mode, the sequence window is divided into 10 blocks. For
- each block, you can specify an event type to be displayed in the block, and
- a view type such as piano-roll, bar chart, etc. Furthermore, you can change
- the size of each block freely.
-
- 1. Time scale:
- It is positioned at the bottom of the control bar. It shows bar/beat
- grids with bar numbers. By dragging on this region using the select
- tool or the draw tool, you can select all events in the dragged time
- range. By dragging on this region using the MIDI in tool or the MIDI
- out tool, you can operate MIDI in or out for all event types. You can
- get the same result as by dragging on an event display block with
- holding down the [option] key, and by dragging on the time scale.
- 2. Tool palette:
- It is positioned at the left-bottom corner of the sequence window
- (i.e. left of the horizontal scroll bar). In order from left to right,
- there are 7 icons: editing tool, editing mode, envelope curve, cursor
- quantization, event density, zoom out and zoom in. Detail descriptions
- about each tool will be found in the chapter "Editing A Sequence".
-
- Following items are prepared for each event display block.
-
- 3. Block number:
- It is positioned at the left-bottom corner of a block. It shows the
- block number. By dragging up/down here, you can change the size of the
- block.
- 4. Block status bar:
- It is a box positioned at the bottom of the block, right of the
- block number. In this status bar, information about the block such as
- the event type and parameter of events are displayed.
- 5. Event type:
- The event type is displayed at the left end of the block status bar.
- It shows the event type displayed in the block. To change the event
- type, click here and hold it down, then a pop up menu which allows you
- to choose an event type will appear. If you choose some event type, a
- sub-type is shown at the right of the event type display.
- They have also popup menus to choose sub-type. There are following
- sub-types:
- o view-type for Note event (piano-roll or velocity-chart)
- o control number for Control change event
- o meta event type for Meta event
- o note number for Poly pressure event
- 6. Block zoom button:
- It is a button positioned at the right end of the block status bar.
- By clicking this button, you can zoom the block to fit the window.
- 7. Block display area:
- Contents of a block display area are depended on the event type:
- Note events:
- There are two view-types: piano-roll and velocity.
- In the "piano-roll" view, a note event is displayed as a rounded
- rectangle which is positioned corresponding to: the note number on
- vertical axis and the note-on/off time on horizontal axis. You can
- zoom in/out vertically by clicking buttons with magnifying glass
- icons on the right end of the block status bar. You can scroll
- vertically by using the scroll bar on the right end of the block,
- or by clicking buttons with up/down arrow icons which will appear
- on the block status bar if the size of the block is too small. If
- a note name list is available for the current channel, note names
- will be shown on the vertical axis.
- In the "velocity" view, velocity parameters of note-on events are
- displayed as a bar chart.
- All note events are drawn in channel colors you specified in the
- "Channel setup" dialog.
- Continuous event:
- Continuous events are control change, pitch bend, poly pressure,
- channel pressure and set tempo meta event. They have continuously
- variable parameters. These events are displayed as vertical bars
- on the chart. Only for the current channel, a horizontal line is
- drawn from an event to next event time. It helps you to find the
- current value of the parameter at any time.
- Since a set tempo meta event is not channel message, then it is
- drawn in black. All other continuous events are drawn in channel
- colors.

- A program change event is displayed as a hexadecimal number with a
- program name if a program name list is available. All program
- change events are drawn in channel colors.
